Directory Submission
Directory submission is an integral part of building and maintaining a strong Web presence and top search results.
Search engines return results from sites they've indexed. But the bulk of their results come from one or several of the directories. Directories use human editors, often people experienced in the field or area in question, to categorize Web sites. Some require a yearly fee, like Yahoo!, and some are free, like ODP.
One thing they all have in common is this: you get one shot at writing your submission. Once it's submitted, the editor gets final say on the category and whether or not your site will be listed. It is extremely difficult to have your site recategorized or reviewed by the editors. Having your site optimized for the directories is essential BEFORE you submit.
